Pixel 3 on Google Fi loses call seconds after start

[Android Central Question]

I recently received a brand new Pixel 3 from Google with Google Fi. I have 4 bars in my area and according to the coverage map am in 4G LTE area.

Immediately after beginning a phone call the connection gets choppy and then suddenly my 4 bars drop to nothing with an X.

I called Google support and they actually are sending me a brand new phone, but I am still curious as to why this would happen.

They had me repair my cell network by typing a code into the dialer and also manually switch networks.

Bad receiver? Bad eSIM? Many possibilities. But tech support is good - it doesn't work, they make it work - no nonsense.
