Just switched from iPhone to Note 9. In iPhone you can compose a text message without having to choose a recipient aswell as send a PM to a recicient from a group message. Is there a similar messaging app for Android?

Not yet. iPhone uses iMessages, Android still mostly uses SMS. (It's getting there, though. The Android Messages app is capable of some RCS already (which, eventually, will go way beyond what iMessage can do - like sending texts without a phone account - by internet), but it's up to the carriers to support it now.

So for now, you're stuck with the Samsung message app or Android Messages.

(How do you send a text without a recipient - to whom does it go?)
