Tap something. It the square appears around the thing you want, tap it again. (That's for people with bad eyesight). Or go to Settings > Accessibility and look for what you have turned on for that (different manufacturers call it different things in different versions of Android), and turn it off. You'll have to "double tap" until it's off.
