This is the second time it's happened. The first time i was really confused, as it messed up a lot of stuff like social media, but the date and time went back to normal in like a minute or two. Now it's happened for the second time, also setting the date to 2/23/18 and the time to about/around 5:59am. This second time, i just turned off the network provided date and time and set the correct date and time manually. Then after a bit, I turned the network provided date and time back on, and it was normal again. Why does this keep happening, and how can i prevent it? Phone is a galaxy s8+, by the way.

When it happens, call your carrier. If they're not working on the electronics at the tower, they have a major problem, and I'd think they'd be glad to hear about it. (If they're working on it, that's why. But they still shouldn't be setting the date back almost a year. If they're disconnecting the GPS date, the cell should keep the time and date about as accurately as a watch - maybe a few seconds off a day.)
