My headphone gate is broke, how can I fix this?

When I try to plug my headphones in my phone, I can't get them in properly. I heve had my phone for a year now, without any problems, but about an hour ago, I couldn't get my headphone cord all the way in. When I listen, the background music is way louder than the important sound. I looked in the hole to see if there was anything wrong and I saw this metallic ball that was not there before. I can't get it out and it is really stuck. There is no other ruble in there, I got that out with was damp toothpick but it was of no use. Does anyone know how to fix this? How to get out the metallic ball?
