Why won't my bluetooth earbuds connect to google?

Even though I have the bluetooth setting turned on on the hands free setting, neither one of my two sets of bluetooth earbuds will connect to the google assistant when I say, "Okay google." Please help me figure out what to do. The assistant will only turn on when I use my phone's built-in mic.

Welcome to Android Central! Which earbuds do you have? Are you sure they have Google Assistant functionality?

I've been having this happen a lot lately. Try going to your phone's settings > application manager > Google > Manage Data > Clear all data. I've had to do this several times over the past few weeks, so whatever glitch is causing it keeps coming back.
