what does it mean if i put my phone in fastboot mode

hi there look i forgot my pattern on my phone ZTE im not sure what type it is but that's all i know.and i forgot my pattern on my phone so i held the power button and the volume up button. and all it came up with was RECOVERY BOOT FAST BOOT MODE and NORMAL MODE

Are you saying that you are trying to Factory Reset? Fastboot Mode is not used for that. Tell us what you want to do. https://forums.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?t=409154
