Unread texts marked as read

[Android Central Question]

Why does my notification badge automatically clear unread messages on the notification badge and in the texts even if I'm only entering to send a text and want to keep the unread text in my notification badge? Please do not respond in Tekkie language. Everyday language is good for me as I am electronically challenged sometimes.

Welcome to Android Central! The unread count badge is meant to show you how many notifications remain unread, not how many total unread messages or texts you have. When you open the app, it's assuming that you've looked at the notifications. I don't think there's any way around that.
