Pixel 3 XL. Google Fi network.

When on Wifi (any Wifi, so I don't think it is Wifi network specific), there are some apps that consistently show their initial screen immediately, then sit there updating for 30-60 seconds before displaying current data. When I am on LTE, they update within 5 seconds . I have specifically noticed this on AP News and Microsoft News. Other apps like CNBC, Google News, Flipboard and others work just fine. I have tried setting image loading to minimal, deleted cache, uninstalled/reinstalled, rebooted, etc. No change. Any ideas on what could be happening or suggestions for troubleshooting?

Most places (including your house) in any given town are using the same provider for internet, and the path from that provider to some of the servers you're trying to get to with those apps may be slow - while the paths from where your carrier enters the intrnet to those servers may be faster. That's just how the internet works.
