Why are my text messages going to email addresses?

I have a Samsung Galaxy s9. For a couple of my contacts, when I select their names to send a text message, it goes to their email instead of their phone. How can I make the default text message go to their phone number rather than their email?

Once you've started a thread for a person and let's say accidentally or intentionally started it using their email, every time you go back to that thread and send more messages they are going to go to that email. The same for phone numbers, or whatever. What you start the thread with is what it will be, which makes this easy, start a new message thread and be sure you are using their phone number and you will forever more be texting them at a phone number using that thread.
