phone is not being recognised by laptop

[Android Central Question]

whenever i connect my phone to my laptop(dell),my phone only charges and nothing else shows on my phone .no notification saying usb connected nothing.But when i connected it to other laptop(sony) ,notification popped up in my phone asking whether to just charge it or transfer files.But when connected to this laptop(dell) it doesn't asking for anything.What shall i do ?just bought this laptop yesterday.Am i suppose to install any drivers or something?
