    If you put the phone to your ear, the screen should go blank, so touching it won't do anything. If that doesn't happen, the proximity detector isn't working. Since the proximity detector is a visual thing (there's an LED, and it detects something in the light path) a badly-fitting case, or one designed without taking the proximity detector into account can cause that. If not, you have to get the detector replaced. (I assume you're not on speakerphone - if you are, you can see what buttons you're touching.)
