"Don't trust them unless you check the IMEI number yourself. They cannot verify anything. I got scammed from a seller who gave me a stolen/ blacklisted iphone. He refused to refund me. I contacted my bank and they said they will take long time for investigation. Swappa staff are horrible/ They don't help at all. All they said that they cannot refund me because they are not a perfect system so it is normal to have thieves and scammers on their website. I have everything documented.

What is likely happened is the seller listed the device before the phone was blacklisted. I believe Swappa does a check during the listing process, to verify the device is "clean". However, once that check is done there's nothing stopping the seller from reporting the phone stolen, or the seller snuck the check in before the legitimate owner had reported it stolen.
