Mobile data is off, phone says 0mb but still minor amount of data used.
New Samsung (talk/text only plan). Data is disabled but there is a very tiny amount of data that only shows up on my mobile account site (data usage on phone says 0mb used). Data is on a tiered system (even with a tiny amount.)
Contacted Samsung and rep said "if data is switched off, there is no way it can be used".
Did some research about background apps. Asked the Samsung rep "even if data is off, can a background app force data usage (especially if WiFi is randomly on low connectivity)" and the response was "no, if data is switched off, there will be no data usage".
This is confounding. Is it possible (even if only WiFi is used), that there could be random data usage (with data off)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A few carrier pings perhaps, though they would not be random.

If this is showing up on your carrier's data tracking, then I would contact them.
