I'd reverse that. First remove it from your account by signing all Google accounts out of the phone (not via the Google website to prevent any glitches from delaying things), then factory reset it. Otherwise it may leave factory reset protection active and not let her set up the phone.

What I've done is factory reset the phone from the menu options, reboot (shouldn't require a sign-in since you were signed in when it was reset), then factory reset it again using the button method. This ensures that it will act as a new device when they set it up and it prevents the phone from attempting to restore apps that were installed. This was on HTC phones so your results may vary.
