Why can't I set the number of reminders on notifications

Why can't I set the number of reminders on notifications instead of how often I want them. I want them to stop after two reminders . every 3 , or 5 or even 15 minute reminders gets very annoying when I'm in bed and phone is in adjacent room

Unfortunately you'd need a 3rd party app that supports that kind of customization (LightFlow allows for notification customization, but haven't used it in years so don't know if it offers exactly what you want). They system isn't designed for that kind of customization as most people do work with either 'notify once' or 'keep reminding me until I see my phone'. Timed/numbered notifications are seldom useful for the majority of users; in your case, it seems to be an useful feature, but one that would require a specialized app to do.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? Notification reminders aren't a native part of Android -- they're typically an added feature from the manufacturer (typically Samsung) or due to a 3rd party app.
