I'm a beginner. I mess up composing text messages, and would like to sometimes start them over. I see how to edit, but not how to completely cancel what I composed. Any way to do that?

Long-press on one of the words in the compose window, you may get an option to select all, once it does, simply start typing a new message and the original (assuming it was never sent) should be overwritten.

Long press on the backspace. It will continue on deleting until its empty. Or use select all then hit backspace.
