Is the timestamp for a message above or below the message?

[Android Central Question]

My bf and I are arguing BC he believes the message is received in the time shown below the message but I believe its above. I sent him a message at 1:41 am and, if I'm correct, he received it at 1:43 am. That is the time above the message in his phone. If he is correct, the time below said message is 9:11 am, which is the time he texted me back. Help!!! Ty!
