recently I noticed that a lot, if not all my photos are not stored on my device, but in the cloud. This causes me issues when I don't have any connection to the internet which is more common than I would like!
Does anyone know if I can set the phone to store all the pictures on the device and still back up to the Cloud?
    Thanks

Disable sync for your pictures. (Settings > Accounts > your Google account)

Welcome to Android Central! If you have Google Photos set up to automatically back up the photos to the cloud, the photos will still remain locally saved unless or until you select the Free Up Space option in Google Photos. The photos shouldn't be automatically deleted from Internal Storage (unless there's some sort of automatic delete option when your storage starts to run low, but as far as I can remember, there isn't on Pixel devivces).
