Audio players and google earbuds

When I press the center button on the Google earbuds the phone asks if I want to give one particular music app permission to use the earbuds. I usually don't. Is there a way to choose a default app to launch when I plug in the USB c earbuds?

No, there may be a way (depending on manufacturer modifications of Android) to choose a default music app, but "default app" applies to file type, not hardware. So if you set the default music app, it might work - but it would work if you ran a music file (say, from a file manager) with the speakers too.
