First I want to say that I could play a game on my phone an hour and it would only go down 10%. I installed a cryptocurrency miner to see if it would work and my phone now went down 30% after an hour on that same app without anything open so I deleted it. My phone still goes down 30% an hour on that same game, even after doing everything to make it last longer such as lowering brightness and turning on airplane mode and the rest of that stuff.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? Cryptocurrency mining apps are generally bad news -- these are often sneaked into apps secretly, essentially as malware, so it's not surprising that you'd have problems even if this were a "legitimate" mining app.

Where did you install the app from -- the Play Store, or somewhere else?

Have you tried restarting your phone after deleting that app?

Does the battery drain quickly only when playing that game, or does it drain quickly no matter what you're doing?

I am having FITS with my S5 battery for this week. I'm convinced it's an update issue. Battery drains in minutes, even w/ all apps closed and the strongest power save turned on. Purchased a new battery yesterday & same thing as my 4 year old battery. I've googled & tried everything. I've 1) cleared all caches & restarted. 2) turned off automatic date, time & time zone & restarted 3) turned off Daydream & restarted ... The last thing I've tried is to have turned on "safe mode" It's still turned on & at least the phone is charging at a resonable speed - but I don't know yet if it will hold a charge in my brand.new.$30.battery!!! I've NEVER had this problem until my latest software update last week

I highly doubt you got any software update the phone is 5 years old , and the new battery you purchased might not be good from being on shelf for 5 years even 4 years .

yeah we sometimes get android updates to a newer version and i have automatic updates on so i could have gotten it. But, regarding the battery, ive purchased new ones from different companies and both have people saying that the battery works great and even a friend got the same battery and it lasts so much longer than mine

The update I'm definitely not convinced, but on the battery might be a bit or miss who gets a good one , have you tried monitoring in safe mode it will disable 3rd party apps just will have native ones see if battery issue persist ?

I'm too ignorant of updates to know what happened, but a week ago, I was given the "opportunity" for updates. Maybe it is the 3rd party thing b/c so far my battery has held up 95% for hours after I turned on safe mode, & at 85% here at the end of the day - so much better than going from 60 to 6 in an hour!! [xCam39x - These are the directions I followed in case you want to try: Turn the device off. Press and hold the Power key. When ‘Samsung Galaxy S5’ appears on the screen, release the Power key. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode ... Good luck]
