    You'd have to prevent condensation forming on, and especially inside, it after removing it.

    I would also wonder if sudden rapid cooling of a hot device could also cause undue stress on the materials, perhaps leading to cracks.

    For both reasons, belodion's and B. Diddy's, turning it off would be better. Then figure out what's causing it to overheat and don't do that.
