Android Central Question

I am using Android 8.1. All updates are installed.
When I hit a "key" on the keyboard, there is no sound.
When I go through all the settings, I check the settings for sound on the keyboard.
It is set to ON. Just to make sure, I turn it OFF and back ON again.
After that, when I use the keyboard, the sound is there.
But after a restart or turn OFF and ON my tablet, the sound is gone again.
Only when I go to the settings and turn it OFF and ON again, the sound is back again.
It is a bit annoying, to every time turn OFF and turn ON the settings, to have the sound again.
Hope anyone has a permanent solution for this.
Many thanks for the tips and trick.

Hi, if you can register a account here me or other members be happy to assist you.

Have you checked the Keyboard settings? Depending on the keyboard you are using it may have its own settings outside of the universal settings on the devcie. If it is something you downloaded, like SwiftKey or Swype, check your app drawer for its app icon and open it from there, if you are using GBoard or Samsung keyboard touch a text field and you should have a settings icon (the gear) there in the predictive text field. If there is a setting there for sound make sure it is turned on.

If nothing works then become a member to reply to this thread and as mustang7757 said we can better understand your issue and offer better advice.

On the advice of mustang7757, I have created an account and here is some additional info
I am using the standard keyboard Gboard.
I did not installed any other keyboards.
As I mention, if I look in the settings, it is all ON.
Only by turning it OFF and ON again, after every boot or reboot, then the sound is there.
I am using android version 8.1.0 with kernel version 3.18.71
I have a Lenovo Tab 4 8
I already had contacted Lenovo about this, but they only can help me if it is a hardware problem and so far, it doesn't look like a hardware issue.

In Settings > Languages & input > Virtual keyboard > Gboard > Preferences, scroll down a little to "Key press" and you'll see "Sound on keypress".

Hi,
I already had check this setting and it is set to ON
But after every boot or reboot, I need to turn it OFF and ON so I could have the sound.
If after the boot or reboot, I check this setting, it is ON, but there is no sound.
Only after turning it OFF and ON, then there is sound until I reboot or boot my tablet.

Hi thanks for registering

You can try reset app preference in settings >apps>tap 3 Dots in upper right corner >app preference see if that works, if not I'll give another suggestion.

Hi,
I did not see the 3 dots, on the location you mention.
But I had gone to settings, system and there is one option called "Reset Options"
There I had chosen for "Reset app preferences"
After a reboot, I tried to see if there was sound on the keyboard "click" but there was none.
I had gone to the preferences of Gboard and there the option for Sound on keypress was on.
By the way, there is sound if I open an app or anything else I touch.
But not when I am typing something on the keyboard.
Only when I go to the preferences again and turn off and on the option, sound on keypress, then there is sound.
Many thanks in advance for your help and tips

I didn't see you mentioned this or I missed it but in settings then sounds you checked everything there ?

When I follow the instructions, I don't get the option for a reboot in safe mode.
When I hold the ON/OFF button, I get two options.
Power Off and Reboot
If I choose Power Off, it goes OFF without any further questions.
If I choose for Reboot, it will just reboot, also without any further questions.

Right now I am thinking of maybe installing a different keyboard, but if I read the reviews of the different keyboards, it is not always great or it is difficult to remove it later.

Are you pressing and holding the Power Off option on the screen, or just tapping it briefly?

Oops, my mistake.
I had tried it again and got the option to safe reboot.
I tried this and the problem is the same.
No sound on keyboard touch.
Only if i go to the keyboard preferences of Gboard and turn the sound on press Off and On, then the sound is there.

Wonder if it's a glitch in Gboard, have you long press Gboard app >tap info>clear data, cache then force stop it ?

I did not tried that yet but i have a small update and so far it looks good.
I started looking around for a different keyboard app.
On my previous tablet, i did not had this problem. So i looked for the Asus keyboard.
The reviews were not great.
Then i started to look for the reviews of Gboard in the Google Store and a recent review was talking about the haptic feedback that was not working, in the same way as i have with the sound.
The reply from Google was, to follow a given link, to become a beta tester.
So i followed the link and went back to the store and there an update.
Installed it and so far it is working
Also after a reboot, the sound is still there.
I will try it for a few days and will update the result here.

Ok great hope it stays that way

As promised, I would give an update after a few days.
So far the problem is gone.
After every boot or reboot, I still have the sound and I don't need to go into the settings every time, to turn it back
ON
I am using the beta version at this moment, and hope this could be of some help to others.
Everyone, thanks for your help and tips.
