Email cant connect to server

When I open the email app that came with the phone and try to refresh it to see new emails, it states that it can't connext to the server. When I pull up my gmail in web browser it shows I have many new emails.

Welcome to Android Central! Which email provider are you using? Are you sure you the server settings (IMAP/POP3, SMTP) are correct in the stock Email app?
