Welcome to Android Central! Which Galaxy tablet -- the original Galaxy Tab? Why do you need to shut it down? If you want to shut it down, then clearly it's powered on, and you should be able to use it. Or are you trying to do a factory reset and make it your own? Did this tablet just recently belong to somebody else?
