It was in airplane mode, standby, battery saver on, well above 50%, showing 8 days extimated for that matters.
So, I just kept reading from where a Ieft it a pdf already open in xodo.
Then suddenly the screen went blank. The power button only makes the backlit toggle on and off. I tried keeping power button for more than 10 seconds but nothing happened.
If I connect power adapter the usual led stays off.
I can't believe a device can die this way, so I'd like to know how to confirm or possibly disprove it. I am not sure I was running beta play services (maybe not, not sure it may matter), anyway I can't believe there is no way to enter in safe mode either (no logo is ever displayed apparently).

It only takes a component failure for a device to be rendered unusable, and that seems likely in this case. It would probably be easily enough diagnosed by a repairer, though not necessarily worth the cost.

You could try charging for several hours and then booting into Recovery, but I doubt that it would work.

Welcome to Android Central! I can definitely believe a device can die that way -- especially a budget device from a relatively unknown company (since their quality control won't be very good).

Plug it in a wall outlet and let it charge for at least 6 hrs undisturbed. Then press and hold Power for about 20 seconds to see if anything happens. If nothing happens, then it could be a failure of the battery or the motherboard. Either way, you'd need to bring it to a repair shop.

Thank you, as you can imagine it's sad to say the least.
I applied for RMA and repair as it's under warranty (less than one year).
What is unbelievable is that the (almost certain) failure happened out of the blue, while just normal reading session, in plane mode, without doing nothing else but scrolling a pdf.

Anyway I'd like to ask if there is a way to access the internal storage (via ADB I assume) and extract edited pdf that are stored, before sending it out.
The USB connection to a PC of course fails because the device is off.
Although I'll keep trying and hoping powering on as you adviced..

If the battery is dead, I'm not aware of any way to access the internal storage apart from replacing the battery. You can't access storage if the device has no power, even if it does seem to register when you connect it to a PC. If the motherboard is dead, then data recovery would probably require a forensic data recovery specialist, which can cost >$1000. Sorry!

Thank you again. I still find it unbelievable that a battery may fail this way, knowing the charging history of the device.
Which was able to stay 7-10 days with one charge for just reading purposes..
We'll see if I can repair it and what caused this problem..
