Welcome to Android Central! How are you creating the album or folder, and what duplicate do you see?

Most gallery apps just show any separate directory with photos as its own album. So if you use your file manager app and go to the /Pictures directory, then create a new subfolder there (like /Pictures/Family), then that would show up as an album called Family in your Gallery app once you start putting photos in it.
