How do I remove an account from the Gmail app, but keep the account in the calendar app?

I want my google calendar to show in the calendar app, but not in the Gmail app. I have unchecked the email sync in account settings and even tried removing and re adding the whole account to my phone. However it always seems to sync with the gmail app, which i don't want as I have another email account already on there.

Unfortunately you can't, you can only disable e-mail sync from the account (but the account would still be IN the GMail app). You can, however, pick which account to use in GMail, so you don't have to worry about the the 'extra' account.
