I was given a used Samsung by my boyfriend a day ago. I first tried using my own Gmail account, misreading the verification. It was factory reset so I tried using his email account, but it was no good. I still got the same prompt. What do I do?

Welcome to Android Central! Was it his phone to begin with? It's asking for the Google account that was associated with the phone -- is he certain of the account he used, or did he get the phone from somebody else?

It belonged to him and was store bought for him. As for the email, im pretty sure it's the one he used, as he told me to use that one.

Thanks for registering! Did he recently change his password? If so, you typically have to wait 24 hours before trying to log back into a phone with his account.

I don't think he would give me the password just to change it. However, I did use my own email instead the first time. I'm assuming even if it's the right details, I still have to wait 24 hours to get in?

If your boyfriend gave you the phone and did not remove his Google account from the phone before doing a factory reset, then the account the phone will ask for will be his account. That's Google's Factory Reset Protection in action. Ask him if he removed his account from the phone before giving it to you.

Or remove your account if it's there, then ask him to do a proper factory reset - including removing his account.

Then start again. You should be able to log in as soon as you put your account in. (Changing the password in the account itself, not in the phone, requires waiting 24 hours, because you'll get an email asking if you reset it. You can respond within 24 hours to prevent the password change from taking effect.)
