I know that when the screen is dark that the phone is still on - it 'lights-up' when a text or email arrives - so it is still sending and receiving signals.
When I turn the phone off, these alerts do not arrive. But how can I know that the phone is not still sending signals in some stealth-mode?
Yes, I sound paranoid. But Google maps still tracks my movements when I carry my turned-off android phone.
I cannot remove the battery from this model. (Huawei P20 Lite)
Is there another test I can do?

You can switch off the screen - the phone is still active - or power off the phone altogether, in which case it is inactive. That's the choice.

Welcome to Android Central! When you say "turned off," you mean completely powered off, correct?
