So, my old phone, with a TON of pictures on it that I would like to retrieve has been unusable for years now.

There were a lot of problems with the phone before it finally became as bad as it did.
It all started with the power button not working. I wasn't able to turn the phone on or off using the power button, but whenever I put the battery in it would come on automatically.

After this, the charging port broke, and I began having to charge my batteries using an external charger up until the point the phone went completely out.

I can't turn the phone on at all, and sometimes if I plug a wire into it, the red charging light will come on briefly.

If anybody has any ideas on how to get my files off of the phone at the very least I would very much appreciate it!

If the phone is dead like battery no good or software crashed , your not going get info from it unless you repair it.

Welcome to Android Central! Are you certain the photos weren't saved to a microSD card in the phone? Check to see if there's a card inserted.

Otherwise, if the phone doesn't work even with a "new" battery (I put that in quotes because any replacement battery you get for such an old phone will have been sitting around on a shelf for years, and has probably deteriorated significantly), then you'd have to bring it to a data recovery specialist, which might cost hundreds of dollars.

And even that's iffy, because they'd have to remove the SoC chip and solder it into a working motherboard, which would make the motherboard unsellable, so add the cost of the motherboard and a lot of labor. (Then it's just a matter of plugging in a cable and copying the pictures to a PC.)

It's so much easier to keep your phone backed up. Just leave the default sync settings, and your pictures will be at Google Photos.
