Can I designate my SD card as HOME to my Downloads folder?

New to Android and want to save space. Have tons of space on my SD but only 16 on tablet.

Which phone ? Different phones do it differently and some might need a file explorer like ES to do that

Downloads location would be controlled by the app doing the downloads. Chrome, for example, has a way to set the location. For Chrome - 3-dot menu in the top right > settings > downloads > download location

Yeah that's the one I use to use back in the days and came on top of my head (ES file )
Saying if can't change they would need that type of file manager ,but it depends on the phone they using , hopefully they respond
