On some of my android devices, numbers cut and pasted into Whatsapp or Discord stay as numbers (e.g. location coordinates), but on some of them, the phone makes them clickable, and when I long press to try to copy it, the phone tries to dial it instead. Is there a way to prevent this? Have searched everywhere for this!

Type out the number as word but that seems awful inconvenient

Welcome to Android Central! I wonder if it might be a keyboard issue. See if this also happens if you install another keyboard app.

I've actually setup 6 different phones identically, which is what is so puzzling about the difference in behaviour. Initially I thought it was a discord thing, but noticed the same behavior in Whatsapp as well. In all cases, I am using the standard Gboard keyboard app, with default settings. Phones that do not do this - (2x) Mi A1 running Android 9 (AndroidOne device), Umidigi A3 Pro running Android 8.1.0.
Phones that Do convert numbers to links - Umidigi F1 running Android 9, (2x) Huawei P10 Lite running Android 8.0.0, Zuk Z2 running Android 7.0.
At this point, it's a minor inconvenience, and I've always been able to google and find answers online, but this has left me perplexed! Thanks for all the suggestions so far!

Yes, I tried Swiftkey on two of the six phones mentioned previously, and it shows the same number->link behavior.

When you're trying to copy the hyperlinked number, what if you long-press the text right next to the number, and then adjust the copy highlight to include the number?

Whether the number gets "linkified" or not depends on ... only whether it looks like a phone number. It has nothing to do with the keyboard or with settings, but with the apps. They'll automatically linkify anything that appears to be a phone number. (It's the same thing here - type anything that looks like a URL and it gets linkified. (We have an "unlinkify" button, but it doesn't work if it starts with http or https, has :// after it, and almost any text. like http://this-is-not-a-link. I unlinkified that, but the site linkified it back. I'm sure Whatsapp and Discord are doing the same thing.)

But the odd thing is that certain devices that the OP has aren't doing that.

Yes, that's the workaround I used, if some of the nearby text isn't hyperlinked. Occasionally, both numbers turned into hyperlinks, and that's when I end up having to type out the numbers instead of copying & pasting.

That's correct, only certain devices do this by default, so I suspect there's some setting somewhere that's making it do it. I did further testing, and the results are interesting. Take for instance the Coordinates for the Eiffel Tower.
    48.858518,2.294717
When I type that into whatsapp and send it to someone else, the second half of the coordinates end up as clickable, i.e. 2.294717
If I add additional zeroes to both numbers, 48.8585180000,2.2947170000, the trailing numbers after the period shows up as clickable, i.e. 8585180000 and 2947170000.
Add another 1 to both numbers, 48.85851800001,2.29471700001 and the entire line now becomes normal (i.e. non-link) text.
So, it's definitely something in the system settings that's interpreting certain string patterns as a phone number. How to prevent numbers from turning into clickable links?-whatsapp-image-2019-12-01-14.48.58.jpeg

I think the conversion of the string of numbers with the period is because the system thinks it's a URL, while the conversion of the 10 digit strings is because the system thinks it could be a 10 digit phone number.
