How do I get my Walmart T-Mobile SIM card to work in a Susan unbranded Chinese Android phone

I am trying to put my SIM card in an unbranded Susan phone from China do I need to take it to my carrier to have activated or can I do it myself

Welcome to Android Central! What's the exact model number of the phone? The phone has to support T-Mobile's network bands. If it doesn't, it won't register.
