    I would say it's either liquid damage or a bad/failing battery.

    If it happens every time the battery gets down to 50%, it's probably a large dendrite (which shorts the battery) that won't burn out, and that shuts the phone off. If you're interested, see Scientists pinpoint cause of harmful dendrites and whiskers in lithium batteries.

    Welcome to Android Central! That phone should have a replaceable battery, so try a new battery.
