Screen lights up but stays blank

Hi,

My husband's phone is fully charged but wont turn on. When the power button is pressed the screen lights up but stays blank.

I have tried pressing power button and volume button at the same time. The phone vibrated but the screen just lit up. No logo or anything appeared.

I appreciate any help you can give me.

Which phone? Is it the original battery?
