Fault: stylus tip hovering generates screen-tap events in error

Please help get my stylus working properly again.

I'm the (up until recently) happy owner of this extremely capable stylus-based phablet:
● Model name: ASUS Fonepad Note FHD 6
● Model number: ME560CG
● Android: stock 4.4.2 (fully up-to-date)

Unfortunately, the way the phablet interacts with the stylus has developed a fault, which is most evident when trying to use the stylus on a keyboard: just hovering the stylus over the screen - without actually making contact between the stylus tip and the screen - seems to generate one or more screen-tap events, in that multiple instances of the character on the keyboard over which the stylus tip is hovering get generated. This also occurs when using a handwriting recognition input method - just hovering over the writing input area produces input traces, which get (mis-)interpreted as handwriting.

This fault is persistent through 'Restart' power cycling, and has effectively disabled my use of the stylus - which is for me the Fonepad Note's BEST feature. So I'd be very grateful indeed for any assistance in getting it back to full working order again.

Thanks in advance for your time and attention.

Warm regards,

Tim Jones
