    Hello everyone.
I would like to type a bit about my experience so far with the ZF2 16 gig US LTE version.
(I'm coming from various Microsoft phones and the Xperia Z1s)

If your looking to spend $199.00 on something here it is!
Received this phone in gray from B&H Photo 4 days ago.
The retail box was hard to pull open...confused me at first
Pulling the back cover off the ZenFone to slip the SD and SIM cards in is a bit difficult.

After getting the phone out of the box and wrapper I was surprised at how lightweight this is.
The design of the phone is clever with the very thin edges that move into the thicker curved back.

Boot up was very speedy and the phone showed a 63% charge initially.
Set-up is the typical Google stuff with Asus wanting logins for it's slow webstorage among other sign-ups for Zen bloatware.
There is a lot of Asus this and that on the phone some usable some not so much for my own preference.

The notification bar pull down menu on the ZF2 is very nice!
Easy to see and easy to tap the buttons.

Both T-Mobile SIMs I have in the device work fine.
The Data SIM in slot 1 isn't seeing a great signal level.
It's showed LTE here and there not consistently however.
The legacy Pay as I Go SIM in the second slot always has full bars everywhere.
Tethering works very well with this no problems what so ever.

I went for 1 day without doing any personalization on the phone to see how the battery handled my use.
The battery depleted somewhat quickly with a lot of browsing, making about 15 short calls and sending 5 texts with photos.
In the new phone state the battery lost 75% in 5 hours.

After setting up the phone yesterday the way I have it now and 3 system updates and 4 top-ups on the included charger I'll say things have improved.
Web browsing is what I would call speedy...I haven't had a lot of luck with speediness on other phones I've had.
Battery time has increased as it usually does over time with repeat charging and updating.
In an idle state the battery will stay charged overnight losing around 3%.

Through the day I get a few FC's I'm not sure why Google Play closes out quite a bit.
The only app that gave me real trouble is Rhapsody...it installs yet closes when I attempt a sign in.
All other apps that I use often worked well and run stable.

I found clutching the phone with the thin edges a little tiring.
This is of course is easily solved with the right case or cover.

The off button is pretty much a design failure it is slightly handy holding the phone in landscape.
Tap to wake up and turn off does negate having to try and stretch for the button.
Volume buttons on the back aren't a preference for me also mainly because I have trouble hitting them.
Hoping I won't continually smudge the camera lens or scratch it because of this.

As always a new phone is a good experience...I'm hoping this turns into a great experience!
Before I stumble too far away from the subject I would bottom line this device as a great buy for the user not needing top of the line.

Thanks to ASUS for giving us more performance choices for less and to Android Central for putting me onto this!

    Update:
I activated developer options under settings for dabbling purposes.
I set transition animation scale from 1 to .5 which has made a good speed difference when flipping screens.

Still enjoying the ZenUI even though it includes way more stuff than I'll ever use.

Getting to know the camera a little better.
Looks like manual and HDR will get the most use by me.
I have to say the camera is hit or miss even when trying to carefully compose.
Reminds me of shooting with film...sometimes good...other times not.

    Nice review!

I think the ASUS Web Storage is something included with all new ASUS products from Amazon. I got a three year free subscription when I bought an ASUS notebook. It's slow on the notebook too. I really don't need it, since I have OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, Flickr.

The battery life sounds really good!

Have you used the camera yet? How is it?

Camera does ok with quick shots.
I like the Asus camera interface in manual.

I'll have to get familiar with the camera in the coming days.

Funny you should mention the box. It took me a while to figure out how to open it.

Noticed one of the reviewers for this phone had a hard time pulling the box apart also.
I wondered if they were all that way.
Dare we say "Better tight than loose!"

Just got the bumper case in the mail from B&H!

With the case on the top button is easier to push and the volume rocker is easier to feel.

A couple of things I noticed about the Asus experience:
The file manager that comes with ZenUI can unzip compressed downloads.
The Asus flashlight app apparently can be downloaded to other Android phones.
I installed it on my Xperia since I don't like it's built in app.

You folks probably already knew this stuff...still getting familiar with Android here after being away for a couple of years.

Noticed yesterday the dialer includes a phone conversation recorder when in call.
    Was this feature always there?

I've never seen a phone with a call recorder included.

Yes that was there prior to this latest update.

So after the update the recorder is gone? I ask because I haven't done the update as of yet.

Still really liking my choice with the ZF2 16!
Even though I received a thorough scolding from my beloved of 36 years for purchasing another phone.

I must say this device running under the ZenUI is stellar for under 2 bills.
Probably shouldn't have been a cheapskate and just went for the 64GB faster version.
I'm just not seeing many if any downsides with my phone (Rhapsody not working is my main disappointment)

Just to note the main reason I bought this phone was because of the foot dragging with new Microsoft device releases.
Sad times for those of us waiting and waiting for Microsoft to do something for the Windows mobile fans.
We need not go there however...

I must say the ZenFone has turned into a great adventure for me the "Old guy"...
    Enjoy the tech my friends!

    ...and another thing!

I like how the ear speaker grill is shiny so I can see the crap collecting in the recess.
Very easy to sweep debris away with a small lens brush.

Small point I know...just something that mattered to me.

    Enjoy those ZenFones everybody!

    So far so good!
I'm not finding any bugs or problems on the phone I have.

I'm hoping to post a camera help thread here some day....
The camera on this phone can go from stellar to wash out in quick order.

I agree OldGuy about the wait. I've been waiting for the 640XL to drop for a while. My main reason for upgrading is the camera, to step up from my first gen Moto G currently in-hand. 3 months ago that 640XL was looking strong but now there is a lot of competition coming on in this space. They would have done well to get it through the carriers faster (easier said than done)

Looking forward to your comments on the camera on the ZF2. From what I've read so far the inconsistency of the camera is a real concern and would be very frustrating.

    Good news!
Evidently the compatibility problems I was having with the Rhapsody app have been alleviated.

Rhapsody installed and loaded with no problems last night I'm happy to say.
I was hoping this bug would eventually disappear.
Now the ZF2 will be my main device!

    Ok!
Since buying this phone in May I can say I'm finding it most enjoyable.
For a while I was looking to move up.
I can't find a valid reason to do so currently.
With Asus updating and adding features regularly I have settled in with the ZenFone.

I do wish the back-home-recent keys were illuminated, yet that's about my only nag with my ZF2.

Glad you're enjoying your Zenfone (:
I was using a Nexus 6 as a daily driver, and after a couple of months I sold it. Couldn't justify the differences in prices, It's just that good.

    Have a good day.
