Since the recent update I am now able to do so. No more hiding them anymore. It also freed up a lot space.

Is it a simple process to uninstall this bloatware, I managed to turn alot of it off and turning off auto-update by disabling in App menu but it still occupies memory I guess...

Oh man thanks for this post, even if it's a month old. I bought my ZenFone 2 the day it was available and tried to uninstall all that ASUS stuff right away. I never bothered trying again. Now I did and removed almost all of them.

I'm considering replacing my Nexus 4 with the ZF2, but the bloatware is the main reason why I haven't. When you disable those apps, do they stay disabled, or do they come back to life after the phone is rebooted? And how many can be uninstalled? I suppose that with 64 GB, I shouldn't be that concerned about bloatware, but I'd still like to uninstall as much as possible. Thanks.

Go for it. Much faster than the N4 and I haven't had problems like I did with the N4 which I had to replace (took it for a swim). I have disabled most all of the bloatware, some apps I kept as they are useful.
You can disable pretty well all bloatware and they stay disabled and you don't get updates. I have no problems with memory and I have the 16gb version. Haven't even used my sd card. Th main reason fro getting the 64gb is if you think you need the faster processor. I don't play games and the phone is plenty fast.
I like everything about this phone except the size, I would have preferred 5 inch screen. Its great having a large screen when using it but can be a nuisance in your pocket. At the gym I am always afraid it will bounce out of my pocket, I should get an arm band I guess
