Why can't I send or receive messages on my Zenfone 2 with T-Mobile?

[AC Question]

I can't send or receive messages on my zenfone 2 with tmobile

So i have a t mobile zenfone 2 and I can't send or receive sms messages unless the other phone is right next to my phone. I'd never have this happen on this phone till recently. I don't know if it's the recent update or not. Should I reset my phone completely?

Another problem is that my notifications are not popping up when i receive notifications. I have my notifications on but it never shows up!!!

Welcome to Android Central! SMS really shouldn't depend on proximity to the recipient's phone. You might consider getting a new SIM card.

Instead of a factory reset, try wiping the cache partition, which won't erase any personal data: New Steps to Wipe Cache in Zenphone 2-ZE551ML

One thing to consider is it could just be T-Mobile, I had a number of problems in the past few months, that my wife experienced too at the same time. I think T-Mobile has has not SMS downtime lately with all the band 12 tower upgrades.

But a factory reset won't hurt, it could be a software issue.

Just solved mine! Try switching battery mode to performance. This works on my zenfone selfie.
