my old zenfone2 had a zenUI keyboard from ASUS. Swiping up on any letter would type the uppercase version. Swiping up on a number would give you the typical symbols, with some additional symbols available by swiping down on certain letters (for comma, dash, underscore, etc.)

I just upgraded to zenfone6 and I cannot find any keyboard that does this. It was invaluable for entering passwords, network keys, and any manual capitalization. are there any out there? I don't need emojis, fancy autocorrect, or my keyboard suggesting I order pizza because I just mentioned dominos in a text message. I just want to be able to type normally without having to click 4 times to get a dollar sign.

Too bad you don't still have the Zenphone 2 - you could extract the keyboard app (with Apk Extractor) and install it on the new phone. (You might have to learn how to rename an app, though - they're probably both named the same thing, and you can't replace a system app without a lot of work.)
