Is there a way to disable stock built-in apps?

I find it a little strange that the sandwich comes with Zen wellness app and also up by jawbone pre-installed. Add fit into the mix and now you have three step trackers. Is there any way to disable up.

Not without rooting, since most of those apps are installed as system apps. If you're sure you'll never want them, after you're rooted, just uninstall them. But I'd freeze them first (you can use Link2SD), in case one of them not being there causes a problem with another app you do want to run. (After about a month, if the phone shows no problems, you can uninstall them. If it shows problems, unfreeze them.)
