Have never owned an American car and have had 2 Japanese cars, so I suppose I should vote Japanese. However, most of our cars have come from yet another country. So I abstain from voting lol.

Unless you have a sh!t ton of money in your Honda, or are racing old broken down garbage, I doubt you're walking away from much at a light.

I love old and new American muscle, but I love Japanese too. I have a 240sx and a Frontier ad my daily driver. I also have a 68 Mustang with a 5.0 and 5 speed. They all have their purposes. I laugh my @$$ off and every guy that revs that crap out of his civic thinking its fast. Pull up next to a new Mustang GT and see what happens to you, lol. There are some nice Japanese sports cars too, but the typical civic etc you see everywhere isn't it.

Japanese cars! Honestly, I've always hated American cars. Very hungry and impractical.
Japanese cars in the other hand are cheap(generally speaking), don't need a lot of gas, and they're reliable(For instance Honda is listed as the most reliable car maker in the world. Honda Accord is number one car model in the reliability list. Google it, don't remember the link)

Always bought Japanese cars. I love European cars but the reliability and maintenance will break you. Let's be honest American cars were not even acceptable until around 2010. They had Tupperware interiors before then. Some of them still do.

American. Japanese cars and trucks are made for the tiny men who need little interiors. American vehicles are made for full size men who need room to move around.

I guarantee my 59 Chevy Truck would smoke the majority of pathetic rice burner Honda's on the road.

To be politically correct, what you meant to say was that American vehicles are made for lard arses being the 69% of Americans are OVERWEIGHT. Your "full size men" statement is nothing to brag about.

Here is some words of wisdom for the uneducated. " I love my Chevy and Ford" . Let me enlighten you about free trade. GM, which makes your so called Chevys, sold more cars in China than it did in the US for the past 2 years. Now lets just say that the Chinese, which are Asian by the way, had your train of thought towards the US as you have towards them and decided to by only Asian cars. Do you think the GM, which makes Chevys by the way, would have been able to make its way out of its bailout? GM probably would hve gone bankrupt if it weren't for the Asians. Think before you speak.

Free Trade?! No such thing. And two, do you have any sort of valid statistics that support your claim? No? Then you haven't a true or valid statement. So quiet yourself if you can't prove what you say is a fact. And sure, in a purely capitalist society, gm should have failed, thus another company would have filled that gap. OR would have opened up a new advanced industry in which I would predict (notice how I chose my words before I spit them on my screen) china would be buying into.

Yep, Chevy and Ford, "American" cars built in Canada and Mexico. First, lets be real, they're publicly traded companies, and therefore global, not American. Second, many European and Asian cars are more American manufactured and assembled. The last list I looked at had 7 or 8 of the top ten most American manufactured and assembled cars coming out of German and Japanese companies. Who do you think is reopening the closed American plants and employing Americans? I'd rather buy from one of those companies and support American workers than an "American" corporation. My Nissan Frontier was built in Tennessee and is somewhere between 70% and 80% manufactured here(don't recall the exact number) Get a clue, "American" car companies business practices are anti American. And they're from from pieces of crap, they're generally accepted to be more reliable than "American" cars, and are.

I don't even need to read consumer reports or J.D. power and associates to determine how reliable domestic cars are. No matter what state I am in, I ALWAYS see way more domestic cars stranded on the side of the interstate than imports. Most of the time when I do see an import stranded, it is really old.

Let me correct myself. From the most recent list I could find, which is from last year, 5 of the 10 most American cars are Japanese. The Camry and Accord are 1 and 2.

And for the record, I love old American steel. I have a 68 mustang and have had 3 other 60's mustangs. I drive Japanese cars as my daily drivers because of the value and the reliability. My last car, and 89 Nissan 240sx got sold with 300,000 miles on it and it still got 30mpg and still had a lot of pep. Never seen that from an American car, especially an American 4 banger.

Japanese cars will last longer and are built with better quality. I will always buy Honda and I'm currently driving a 2012 Acura TSX. I want a fun sporty car that's economical and reliable. GM and Chrysler make terrible products. I'd buy a Ford if needed as they make quality vehicles.

BTW, Honda opened up an assembly plant in America a few years ago. I think it was Indiana but I may be wrong and it produces Civics. Honda just opened up a plant in America to build the new ILX.

I love these arguments saying its not American. Its American where it counts- economically for us 99%. Its Japanese where it counts- Reliability and quality.

    Here my take:
I owned a 1993 Acura Integra from 2004 until 2008. I bought it with 108,xxx miles on it and wrecked it with 205,xxx. Only broke down once when the distributer died. Beyond the normal maintenance, the distributer and clutch I had to replace. Even with 200 on the car I could launch in first at 6500, hit the limiter and smoke the tires in 2nd with no problem. Thing I hated was price of parts. A o2 sensor was $160 when my dads Silverado was $20 including taxes. Plus paying $900 to get the clutch replaced. My next car after that was 1995 blazer. Had that for two years. Was on a flatbed 8 times. Distributer, ignition switch, fuel pump were the majors. That had 115 on it when I bought, traded it at 177 because the tensioner pulley broke and driving it a 1/4 of a mile to my work killed the engine. Traded it when I got my 08 Cobalt that had 55k on it. Now has 81k on it with zero problems so far. I bought the Chevy because it was cheaper to insure and parts are cheaper. Also like the styling more than anything japan has out that I can afford. Would have took an evo or 370z though.

For me imports (specifically Japan) owned the 90's. But in the mid to late 2000's american brands took over in my opinion. Japan makes bland looking cars now and american has had the best styling lately. Look at Toyota and Honda now. We went from having integras, S2000's, NSX's, Preludes, Supras, 300ZX and Skylines, MR2, 3000GT's, and Eclipses. They looked better (and in some cases out performed and destroyed them) than the Mustangs, camaros, vettes, cavaliers, escorts, probes, and avengers of the time. But now all the Japanese cats I mentioned are dead. Now we have prius's, Camry, corolla, civic, etc. They all look bland compared to the newer mustangs, vettes, camaro, challengers/chargers, the new viper looks awesome.

All in all I think Japan is in a slump. The same slump America went through in the 90's. The LFA, 370z, GTR, maybe the NSX, and evo are about the only cars they got going for them. The new Subaru/ Scion looks promising. I believe Japan forgot what propelled them to the top, but there still is a glimmer of hope that cheap, fast enough, reliable and cars that retain their value will come back.

Can't disagree there. Honda had the best looking Civic in history from 2006-2011 and than went downhill. There is a reason that Honda has already said that the Civic is in the process of a refresh. It starts with looks, lack of quality interior from cheap plastics and awful seats, weaker brakes and the rise is noisy and rough. The Accord is sexy as hell as a two-door but that's all Honda has looks wise. You really need to spend the extra money on an Acura to have a well engineered yet amazing looking vehicle from Honda.

I'm not sure on the price to insure between American and Japanese so I will take your word on it. But I will say this; due to depreciation if I total a Honda and you total a Chevrolet, the Honda will pay off more due to its slower depreciation of value. I'm assuming we have the same price car too so a Civic compared to a Cobalt. But in the end, it all comes down to preference. I won't argue that Ford and GM have made improvements but anyone who buys a Chrysler product is beyond clueless on the quality of a vehicle. Sorry for being so harsh but Chrysler vehicles are not make with any form of quality anymore. And that's a shame for any car enthusiast.
