Can we swap in an already activated SIM and use this on Verizon?

Would be wishful thinking. But I doubt it.
It will work on Verizon when Verizon activates it.

It might work like the Moto X Pure. Verizon hadn't originally approved it to work, but Moto said, "Screw it!" and let it work out of the box.
I'm sure a reviewer will try it out.
I spoke with a product guy with ZTE and they're trying their absolute best to get the Axon 7 officially working with Verizon.

Did they give any specifics?
I just got this form the PC Mag Review.
Network Performance and Connectivity
The Axon 7 is an unlocked phone with full compatibility across all major US carriers. It supports GSM, CDMA, HSPA, and LTE bands 1/2/3/4/5/7/12/13/17/20/25/26/29/30/41. Only the Motorola G4 Plus$329.99 at Amazon, G4$149.99 at Amazon, and Apple iPhone SE$399.99 at Verizon Wireless feature such broad network support. I tested the phone primarily on AT&T, but I was able to use data and make voice calls on Verizon as well. Network performance in midtown Manhattan was in line with what I've seen on other recent AT&T devices. The phone also supports dual-band Wi-Fi and NFC.

I hope one of these sites goes more in-depth with Verizon use.
I emailed Ajay Kumar, the guy who wrote that article in PCMag and this is his replay and some screenshots.

to me
Can confirm. Have the Verizon sim in now, able to make calls. Data is bad inside the office but it worked outside.

Hi, I just read your review on the Axon 7. Can you confirm that just by putting in your Verizon SIM card, it worked on their network?
As you can imagine, there are a LOT of people waiting to order the phone until they hear that Verizon is ok with this phone working on their network.
Anything you could provide would be appreciated and passed along. Thanks!

That's a good sign.
I believe that "R" signifies roaming.
Yes you can, "I tested the phone primarily on AT&T, but I was able to use data and make voice calls on Verizon as well." From the PC mag review^^
Looks like ZTE is officially going to say "GSM only" for now.

You can hardly blame them. Knowing Verizon and all.
Sorry to hear this.

But if you read further, seems like no one really knows for sure.
I'm using a Verizon sim in my Axon 7. Phone is working fine. CDMA is only supported in the 1st sim slot. It will not work in the 2nd slot.

Do you have 4g?
Yes, I have 4g LTE and made calls with no problems.

That's great news, I had a feeling it work, but ZTE is just covering themselves by saying it isn't compatible as they don't have an official agreement with Verizon...how do you like the phone so far?
Lol got to feel for Verizon users, every unlocked phone release is like a lottery. Hate all carriers in general especially Verizon who are a pain in the OEMs ***. Apple because of their market and brand strength knows how to treat these morons.
So far I like it. There are some things I have to get use to coming from a 6P but I'm fine with that.
Posted via the Android Central App
How does the size compare to the 6p?
It is a little bit smaller but that is a good thing. I think 5.5 is the sweet spot for me.

Thanks for all the info
LTE calling. But what about 1x?
how does one get the phone to use 1X? I don't even know how to do that with my Verizon phones.(LG G4, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S7, and a spare iPhone SE)
Can you run a speed test?
I get pretty slow Verizon 4G speeds in my part of the town using my Note 5 and S7. :( (never more than 27mbps)
I want to get the Axon 7 as a spare phone.
I'm on Verizon, and I still don't feel comfortable ordering this yet. I'm seeing people say that it keeps going to roaming or has noticeably worse reception than other Verizon phones. I really want this, but I just can't jump if it's not going to work properly.
I used the Sim from work form to test. When get home later tonight I will test.

1x is a voice call. If you're not doing WiFi or HD Calling, which the HD call goes over the 4g section of the network, then it's a 1x call, you'll see the signal change while on that call.
Speed test

You will see Verizon at the bottom of screen.

I think the calls are on 1x. When I place a call the LTE sign goes away and it just shows the signal bar.

so the phone doesn't do VoLTE on Verizon? :(
Do you have Advanced Calling 1.0 enabled on the line and Enhanced LTE(VoLTE) enabled on the phone?
Yes to both questions.

Same here. Works fine. Only few quirks. Can't use data while on phone call.
I didn't hesitate to buy and use it on Verizon network. I've gotten over 50mbps download on occasion. Only thing I can't get is data while on phone call. I keep calling Verizon to ask about compatibility, but mostly they don't even know what the phone is. I just popped my sim card in from another phone.
I had data for about an hour and then lost all data connection until I pulled my SIM and installed it again. The phone shows it's roaming the whole time my Verizon SIM is in it.
So no, it doesn't work for me.
For anyone interested I am running both Verizon and AT&T simultaneously on this phone. I have had it a couple of days now. Verizon works only in Sim 1. I tried it alone this morning and without wireless downloaded a scanned 40 page pdf in seconds. WhatsApp appears to work as well on both lines. I am also using the Xiaomi Mi5 for the same thing. The Axon 7 is superfast and strong compared to the Xiaomi but the Xiaomi seems to use the two cards a little easier. It may just be my imagination, but the bottom line is that both phones seem to work fine with one sim card from each carrier. I took my sim card from a Nexus 5x and the AT&T card from a Windows Lumia 950, popped them both in and there you go - two networks on one phone.
I wish I seen your post before buying. I got this phone to run 2 Verizon sim's. No dice, CDMA is only on Sim slot 1. Phone is amazing otherwise. Coming from GS7 Edge, and this phone is every bit as good in every area nearly.
I was doing some more research concerning the Axon 7 (I'm a Verizon user and I really like this phone) and I stumbled upon the PCMag review which has been edited as of 10/18.
"Editors' Note: When we first published this review on July 25, 2016, the ZTE Axon 7 worked on all four major US carriers. Due to a software update, the phone is no longer compatible with Sprint or Verizon Wireless. We've updated our review to reflect this change, but it does not affect our rating. We continue to recommend the phone for GSM carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile."
Is anyone still using the Axon 7 on Verizon wireless?
http://www.pcmag.com/review/346194/zte-axon-7 here is the article.
Mine is working fine on Verizon for the most part. Had a few dropped calls and the text app is sometimes buggy. What APN settings is everyone using? Mine seems to switch between a few of the pre installed options. But after selecting "restore default" it seems to work fine. I have had a few people say I'm not receiving text, and it only happens with people on AT&T.
Great to know. I'm seriously thinking of it
Ok, just to confirm. You're using the Axon 7, on Verizon, for calls, downloads, data, everything without issue? Nice
Im on Verizon and trying 1 of my lines on project fi. I put my fi sim in my Verizon galaxy S7 EDGE and it worked on T-mobile only. So I'm thinking the Axon 7 might work on Verizon with 1 of their sims.
I am, everything works fine for me now. Keep in mind my Sim was already active. And the CDMA Sim will only work in slot 1.
Nano sim? Don't tempt me. Since I do Tech Support for Verizon, I've been itching to try this one.
Yes it takes a Nano in both slots.
So when you say CDMA, you mean that only? No LTE?
Yes both slots take a Nano.
No, when I say CDMA Sim I mean Verizon or sprint. The second slot does not support CDMA carriers. The LTE works perfect for me. The only issue I am having is the APN settings are switching randomly. The default Apn settings great, but for some reason they randomly switch over to Trac Phone settings. When that does happen everything still works but text messaging. It's an easy fix, but is very annoying having to check those settings all the time. Hopefully someone can chime in with a fix.
Man. You almost had me to pull the trigger, lol.
Yea problem just showed up. Seems to only happen when switching between WiFi and LTE. Still an awesome phone, I'll keep it regardless.
So then you have to manually change the APN settings again after that happens?
Yes, I just go back to the APN settings and select restore to default.
After the update today it has not happened again. I'm hoping that solved the problem.
I am looking forward to the axon 7 mini... I am going to upgrade from a Moto G4.
Are you able to switch to using only your AT&T data (4G/LTE) when you are running on both AT&T and Verizon?
I've got the mini. Had it for a week now. Its an awesome phone. Certainly not as fast as my S7 edge or pixel, but holds its own. I bought it purposely for the Dolby atmos and hifi dac amps to listen to my media. Nothing else comes even close.
That's why I want to get one... not because is a flagship phone but because the powerful audio that it has.
Im using a project fi sim card in it, so I get all that comes over data and WiFi. Also downloaded hangouts Dialer. You can make calls with it using data from your fi account.
