Re: [HOW-TO] : Restore Nook Color back to stock EASILY!

Lots of people have been asking about this recently so I decided to sorta copy
...
What these steps will do:

This will remove anything that you currently have on your system, including CWM. It returns your nook back to a stock 1.0.1 unit and ready for registering.
...
It will now boot into the CWM, and you need to format both the system and data on it before your flash. THIS IS IMPERATIVE!

To perform the formats follow these steps:

1. select "mounts and storage"
2. select "format system"
3. Confirm format
4. select "format data"
5. Confirm format
6. Continue with steps below
...
.

I can not get the "mounts and storage" select "format system" to work. It hangs at format /system...

At this point I must do a power+n reboot. If I try to restore a Nandroid it also hangs at trying to restore the system. Is there anything I can do from adbWireless to correct this? No matter what I do it always returns to CyangenMod-7-08192011-NIGHTLY-encore that I have installed in emmc.I am lost at what to do next. Any suggestions?

I have tried using the Internerl CWM Recovery 3.2.0.1 and SD version of the same. Both hang at format/system...

Try the factory restore - wipe data/system option instead & do it off the card. You want to use the card for everything when restoring to stock.

Tried the factory reset from SD Card. It shows data and cache but not system. Then installed stock update-nc-stock-1.3.zip. Said it did boot... and completed fine.

Reboot and my old nightly loader and CM7 nightly loaded again.

Any other suggestions? Any possible adb or adbWireless?

Actually, it should say "wipe data/factory reset". I am pretty sure when I watched the screen it confirmed a system wipe. Did you wipe the cache and Davlik as well?

Please help me before I hit panic mode. I tried to return my nook color to stock but something went wrong. It is now just flashing the nook color animation over and over again.

What now?

Here is what I did. Notice no system wipe in wipe data/factory reset..

Using ClockworkModRecovery v3.2.0.1. Mine says for wipe data/factory reset. Got last three lines from error report as they go by too fast.
Formatting /data...
Formatting /cache...
Formatting /sd-ext...
No app2sd partition found. Skipping format of /sd-ext.
Formatting /sdcard/.android_secure...

Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvick

Flash update-cm-7.1.0-encore-signed.zip
Flash gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip

on reboot get black power screen
power+n gets me back to old nighty in emmc

Same thing happen when I try tonedef71 file to return to stock 1.3.

This was what I was trying before anything dealing with system gave me errors (Nandroid image from restore, back to stock, mount new rom, use verygreen's Size-agnostic SD Card image and CM7 installer for SD Cards). Errors at system with all of these.

I tried both nook-complete-restore-1.3.zip and update-nc-stock-1.3.zip following the procedure you suggested. Both failed the same way.

Try using Win32 Disk Imager to burn the image to your SD card. What is the SD card brand?

Re: [HOW-TO] : Restore Nook Color back to stock EASILY!

I have used file mentioned above to restore my nook back to stock 1.3 and I worked like a charm except that I can't get the apps and books to download. The icons on the home screen are unresponsive. I have tried to erase and deregister my device but it says it says "unable to reset device locally. Did anyone else experience this problem and if so, what did you do to correct it?

Did you try the original file in the first post and then update manually?

Hey,
I have a problem with my Nook Color. I got this thing today and flashed it with clockwork-mode.

Burn Clockwork on SD etc. I think the problem is, that my Nook has the FW 1.3 (I think so, but I`m not sure). I have tried to reset it, but that did not work

So the guy in the video lists the following sequence

1. choose "mounts and storage"
2. choose " format system" -> perfect so far

3. choose "format data" -> ERROR
Formatting /data...
Error formatting /data!

4. choose "format cache" -> no error

5. press Power button and choose "install zip from sdcard" -> ERROR
--Installing: /sdcard/firmwarexyz.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...

Installation aborted.

I use ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.2.8

Please help me, what can I do?

Many thanks in advance

Use version 3.2.0.0 or higher of CWR: Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

Re: [HOW-TO] : Restore Nook Color back to stock EASILY!

It works :)

The newer Clockworkmod helped me a lot. But another problem was my Mac. The mac unzipped my downloaded files and after rezipping the files were broken.

Re: [HOW-TO] : Restore Nook Color back to stock EASILY!

Here is a link to the complete Barnes & Noble Nook Color v1.4.1 stock firmware.

The manifest and updater-script contained within have been updated to work with the install ZIP file function of CWM Recovery.

Would somebody please mirror the above file somewhere to another host, as it will be gone from FileFactory after 90 days?

Thanks.

I followed the video to restore back to stock, and was successful. I then side-loaded the 1.4.1 but it doesn't seem to be working at it's full function. I can't get the netflix app, and my nookfriends just hangs there. There are a few other apps that I can't use either.

Should I have side-loaded a different version before the 1.4.1? Sorry, but I'm totally non-techie (but was so proud of myself for restoring).
Thanks for any help.
Cate

I would try restoring to stock 1.2 and then updating from BN.
