Why is my battery draining so fast?

I have a Moto x 2nd gen with Verizon. Was working fine. All of a sudden the battery won't last more than a couple hours. It gets very hot. Even if plugged in unless I'm using the quick charger it drains the battery faster than it charges.

When I look to see what's draining the battery it says:
Voice Mail 36%
Android OS 26%
Google Play Services 14%
Screen 11%
Skype 11% (but I haven't used skype)
and several under 10%

It seems to last longer in Safe mode, but I haven't done an extensive test.

Welcome to Android Central! Does this persist after a reboot? Those percentages don't mean much unless we know how much total battery has been used so far.

Charge up to 100%, then let it drain to 20-30% with normal usage, without charging in between. Then show us:

1. The main Settings>Battery screen.
2. The fullscreen battery graph screen (which shows Awake time and Cell Signal Strength).
3. The Screen category (to see total Screen On time).
4. The Cell Standby category, if present (to see Time Without Signal).

Thanks. Just trying to do what you said seems to have made my phone fix itself (kind of like when you take your car to the garage and they can't get it to make that funny noise). But after 4 says of acting up through several reboots and lots of overheating it's now behaving itself. If it acts up again I'll know what to do.
