I have a Galaxy s6 and I have gotten in the habit of compulsively closing apps to return to the home screen instead of just using the home button. My rationale is that fewer running apps = less strain on the battery. I am beginning to think that closing apps like twitter when I am going to re-open in in 20 minutes might be more harmful to battery life.

With a device like the S6, it only takes a second to re-open an app. I don't see any harm in closing out the apps. I do so myself when I know I'm not going to be using the phone for a while, especially when going to bed without charging.
