Travel router connection problems

I have an Acer Spin 713, had it for about two weeks, and recently went on an overnight trip. I began using a travel router for security when using hotel wifi and have an issue. I can connect and set it up with my phone, or another windows laptop, but when I use the Chromebook, I can connect to the router but it only will stay connected for about 15-20 seconds, then disconnects. It will connect again for a few seconds, then disconnect. Once I make the connection with the other device, and the router is connected to the hotel's wifi, then the Chromebook will stay connected. Any ideas why it's just the chrome book doing this?

When you say "travel router," do you mean a personal hotspot from your wireless carrier?

It's a small little router that I bought on Amazon, a TP-Link TL-WR802. Here B&H calls it a Nano router.

You've already tried forgetting the network on the Chromebook and then reconnecting?
