I was pretty excited to get a Chromebook for Christmas, its something i've really wanted.
I had read about Google setting deadlines for apps on the Chromestore , that the apps had to work offline by a certain date.

I know 2 of the deadlines have already passed.
The final deadline being December 2015.

So far I've only downloaded apps that are suppose to work offline.
Over 50% of them didn't work offline.

I've also pretty well confirmed that Bluetooth File Transfer isnt supported.

As of October MTP is suppose to be supported.
I got it to work for a few pics then it failed.

If you can get it to work and you transfer pics to Pixlr, you can only store them in my drive.

I managed to transfer by MTP a few images into Google + Photos.
You cant use Pixlr to access them to edit them.
Not while offline.

This is just a short list of what they cant do. Their is much more.

Sadly without these features a Chromebook is pretty worthless to me.

Hopefully with time these issues and others will be fixed.
Im keeping my Chromebook sense it was a Chritmas gift.
I will use it as a web browser, but I was hoping it would replace my netbook.
It won't.

Well that sounds frustrating. Which Chromebook do you have? Are you sure it's been fully updated to the latest Chrome OS version?

Good call I'm not on the latest version.
I wonder why it didn't update.
Hopefully their is a bug fix I missed.

I'm on 39.0.2171.96.
I believe I should be on
39.0.2171.99.

Tried a few interesting things that worked yesterday.

So far I've added Pixlr, Google +Photos, and a PDF reader.

Its common knowledge that you cant use a DVD player to watch movies on a Chromebook.
Chromebooks lack the codecs to play them.

In another thread I'd mentioned I hooked a DVD player up to my Acer C720.

I tried some more experimenting.
Dvd player is recognized by my Chromebook and works fine.
Just not for movies.

It did work fine for a disc I had pictures on.
On Pixlr I could view and edit them but only save them to my drive, or back to the disc.
Didn't try in Google + Photos because it wouldn't open.

I tried a catalog on CD that was on Adobe acrobat.
It read it fine.

Last but not least I had a disc with magazines in PDF format.
I was able to view them and even save them to my computer. Worked great.!

I will also say that Google +Photos seems buggy.
It doesn't always open.

Hey, I finally got around to trying the MTP feature. Had no problems accessing photos on my Nexus 5 (using my Acer C720), and copying photos over to the C720's hard drive. Are you still having problems with it?

Thanks for trying it. Glad to know it works.
I have no internet right now I'm getting ready to change services.
Hopefully Tuesday I can take it to the Library and update to the latest version of chrome os.
Hopefully that will fix my problem.

I had some issues with MTP as I recall but I haven't messed with it in a while. I love my chromebooks (I own two of them) but I'm still not ready to use them as my sole computer. There is a lot of stuff I have to do on my Mac but I find Chrome OS has me covered for everything I might need when I'm not parked in front of the Mac. For DVDs I have taken to ripping them with Handbrake and coverting them to a DRM-free format that Chrome OS supports. I've got a 64 GB SD card chock full of videos for when I need movies and TV shows on the go.

I had contemplated getting a DVD reader and trying it through Ubuntu but I've since gotten rid of all my crouton stuff
