If you are a good customer (meaning, pay your bill on time, no outstanding issues), they will send you an unlock code so you can take your phone elsewhere. I have heard that you might want to say something like "I want to take my phone overseas", and this will help expedite the procedure. I can understand why they might get a little harder to deal with if you say your leaving for Tmobile...

You would have to check the LTE bands. It might not work well.

Edit: Looking at the specs page, it has one LTE band 4, and it does support 850/900 so it might work but not 100% sure. Galaxy S5 16GB (Verizon) Phones - SM-G900VZKAVZW | Samsung US

You'd be safer to sell that phone, and get one that has been used on either ATT or Tmobile. The band that Verizon phone works on could give you some nagging issues, and would always be the "source" of you problem, if you went to Crickets tech support....
